Twilight fan

So I finally took the bull by the horns, or book by the cover as it were, and read all 4 of Stephenie Meyer's Twilight series books this last week. She is an English Major graduate from BYU, and while vampire books are not my thing, I finally decided I should find out what the fuss is all about..... And low and behold, guess where book No. 2 called New Moon takes place?? VOLTERRA, Italy! We were just there over a month ago. Trevor, who also read the books last summer, never said a word when we were in Volterra in Piazza di Priori where our protagonist Edward was about to reveal that he is a vampire to all the locals and American tourists in the piazza celebrating the feast of St. Marcus. Of course Trevor knows me too well, and didn't tell me because if I had known, I would have pestered him to take off his shirt and stand in the sunshine and put in a pair of plastic vampire teeth as a funny picture.
When we were there, it wasn't a feast day and only a street market was in this piazza. The locals were only selling fruits and vegetables not capes, coffins or fangs.
This is the clock tower Edward stood under as he counted down to noon and his eternal love Bella is rushing forward from a stolen yellow Porsche through the throngs of people to let Edward know she is not dead.
As noon draws nigh, the piazza shadow lessens and then the whole square lights up with sunlight.... which would glisten like a million diamonds off a vampire's skin, revealing the fact that Edward is non human and the ancient Volturri, a clandestine group of law enforcing Vampires would have to take him out for breaking the #1 rule of vampires...never expose yourself to huge throngs of humans.
By 2pm the whole square was empty. Every Italian was inside eating..... according to the book this is because the Volturri had lured in some unsuspecting American tourists for lunch... Thankfully we and our precious blood made it out alive!

is there a fountain there?

No, Meyer used artistic license in her book. Alot of central and southern Italian cities have fountains in the main city square, but towns in Tuscany usually only have a well. Volterra is really an ancient Etruscan town, the people before the Romans... so no fountain unfortunately.

oh well... it added to it for poor Bella to have to slog thru a fountain as well as a crowd!

I was wondering why you hadn't mentioned anything about Twilight in your first post about your trip to Volterra! How cool is it that you were actually there! Most people over here are flocking to Forks, while you are frolicking in the streets of Volterra, Italy! So, did you like the books?

I did! They are great young adult books illustrating that you can stand out against the crowd and choose to live a better life. Meyer did great encorporating our values in her saga.
