All dressed up and somewhere to go

Since we have moved here, Steve has been asked to teach classes, speak at seminars, judge competitions and attend parties for work. The best part for me is obviously attending the parties.... The latest party was for the (unofficial) Taiwan Embassy at the Sheraton Hotel. They were celebrating the 99th National Day of the Republic of China (Taiwan). We were all thinking they would have an even bigger party at 100 years but during a speech, were told 99 is a very lucky number.
Before we left we posed for a couple "Homecoming pictures" like Trevor did a few weeks back for his Homecoming dance.

We met up with our cute, fun friends Nan and Rod Osborne. They lived in China for 5 years before coming to Guam and both speak fluent Chinese. Rod is head of one of the squads here on Guam and Nan works at the Radiology Center as a nurse and running the office. It was so nice to move here and have instant friends. They are outgoing and friendly and best of all members of the church. In fact, their son Brian made our logo for our Youth Conference t-shirt.
Here is the guest Taiwanese speaker for the night, Director General Vince Tsai who works for the Taipei Economic and Cultural office in Guam. At the end of his speech, he sang Karaoke. We were surprised-- but not really. It's no secret that Asians love to sing karaoke. Afterwards they opened up the buffets, and there were lots of egg rolls and noodles, meat on a stick, essentially all the best Chinese food Americans love to eat. While we were trying to eat, we were asked to pose for several photos with various Chinese businessmen. We had to keep putting our food and chopsticks down. At least they didn't ask us to sing.

Steve came back with a stack of business cards. I came home with sore feet from standing in high heels but it was all worth it-- it's fun to play Cinderella and balance chop sticks every now and again.
