Goodbye glimpses

Since this is her last week in Italy, my friend Jennifer wanted to get the 360 degree view from the tallest building in Centro Rome... so we went to the top of the Vittorio Emanuele Building on the Capitoline Hill. On the top of the building is the winged goddess of victory Nike on a chariot. Nike was worshipped in ancient times when soldiers came home successful in battle.

We had a nice breeze and the Italian flag unfurled ,,. she felt that was a fitting wave goodbye.

This is King Vittorio Emanuele on his horse. This monument was placed here on the inaugurtion in 1935.
In the red palazzo below, Mussomini spoke to the people
We climbed lots of steps and then took the elevator up to get the bird's eye view
The giant Colloseum looked tiny up there.

And you could see all the way to the EUR...Mussolini's new Rome
This is the Roman Forum and Palantine Hill where the Emperor's lived

The dome in the back is the Vatican and the flater round dome to the right is the Pantheon

We climbed back down sunburned, tired and hungry after fighting with tourists to look through the giant binoculars, chasing off the seagulls and fighting off tears.... but shoe shopping, and pizza and ice cream fixes any woes!
