My Bosses Retirement Party

My boss, Deputy Regional Security Officer Mona Moore Mitchell (on the left) has worked for the State Department Diplomatic security for 40 years. She retired this month and we threw her a party. She had a great career guarding Secretary of State George Shultz during the 80's in the Reagan era. She was with president Carter in Bogota and also watched the American Ambassador in Columbia.
The Italian local guards were invited to the party and Nace Crawford (far left) who is the RSO - the Sheriff of the embassy if you will....
The Marines were good to loan their house and to cook all the burgers, hotdogs and sausages.

This is one of our 6 security coordinators Marco Ruggieri who thinks he looks like Andre Bucelli the singer

This is my nice coworker Beatrice Santucci and her children. The mean coworker, Polish born Elizabeth, was thankfully on a cruise. The spirit at the party was a jovial one without her mean spirit there.

These are the two Assistant RSO's Barry Shaul and Tim Lawlor. Both great guys.

This is our security engineer John Slack. Everyone thought he was gay until he proposed to this cute little hispanic girl Sarah from Texas last month. He helped me get the powerpoint presentation that I prepared of Mona (all of her photos with President Reagan and Carter, her graduation class and her shooting on the American DS team in Ghana (set to the music of "Secret Agent Man") up on the big screen.

The Marines presented her with an engraved Roman sword.

And several of her Italian friends brought all kinds of gifts. One lady asked if I was her daughter since she knew Mona when she was just Mona Moore. One Italian man spent the whole evening calling her Mon Amore (a play on her name Mona Moore) She was fun to work with-- she reminds me a bit of Grandma Bastian. It is nice to work for a woman who did great in a man's world.
The evening finished with some friendly table soccer: Americans vs Italians..... the Italians won. With them guarding our gates... its nice to know they have some skills.
